I’ve found a wealth of other caregivers on the Internet. These sister caregivers (and brothers, too) rely on each other for advice, consolation and venting. I’d like to give a shoutout to my brethren of caregivers on the Internet…and point you to some of their bright corners of wisdom!
I’m a big fan of blogs on Blogher — a community of power women bloggers. Inevitably, the topic of the Sandwich Generation comes up. Rita Arens, a popular blogger on the network, wrote an insightful entry about (http://www.blogher.com/back-school-sandwich-generation-edition) revving up for Back to School activities …and how dealing with elderly and frail parents can complicate matters for mommies. While not a Mommie yet, I can relate after spending mornings prepping a young niece for school, giving meds to my mother and then ferrying husband to work.
Baby boomer blogs frequently address the challenges faced by the almost-retired folk who are caring for their elder generation. The motto for Vamoomer (http://www.vaboomer.com/the_portal_to_boomeranger/): Refirement, not retirement! Another babyboomer blog: http://www.midlifesatrip.com/.
The editor — also a fiction writer like me! — of http://www.thanklessjob.typepad.com/ has a clear-eyed view of the gritty world of caregiving. She chronicles her caregiving adventures with gentle humor. I can relate.
Hospice care frequently comes up in the blogging sphere– probably because hospice workers need inspiration and encouragement. Tender Loving Care (http://tenderlovingeldercare.com/) and the Hospice Foundation of America (http://hfahospice.blogspot.com/)shine a light into the world of hospices — and are informative for hospice families.
Alzheimers is a frequent topic among the caregiving blog sphere. The Alzheimer’s Spouse (http://thealzheimerspouse.com/) chronicles the life of an activist who speaks out for Alzheimers’s caregivers out there — while taking care of her beloved husband.
